You can choose to add an additional layer of security to your account known as 'Multi Factor Authentication' (MFA). With MFA enabled, you use your username and password to log into your portal, but you also use your mobile phone to verify that it’s you logging in.
The portal's MFA requires you to enter a temporary code from an Authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator App) that you install on your mobile device.
Depending on how your account has been configured by your financial professional, you may be asked to complete MFA setup immediately upon logging in or it may be optional.
Note: If MFA has been mandated by the firm, you will not have the option to disable MFA.
For more information, visit My firm has enabled MFA, How do I access my account?
Before you begin:
Download the Google Authenticator app. This can be found within the Apple App Store & Google Play store.
The Google Authenticator app generates 2-Step Verification codes on your mobile device. 2-Step Verification provides stronger security for your account by requiring a second verification step when you sign in.
To make this security feature available in your portal follow these steps:
-
Ensure you have downloaded the Google Authenticator app to your mobile device.
From your client portal, click your profile and select ' User Settings'. Note :Depending on the configuration selected by your financial professional, your dashboard will be different. - Click on Security Settings
- Click on ‘Setup MFA’.
-
The 'Configure MFA' window appears. Scan the barcode using the Authenticator app. A code in the app will be generated. Enter the code in the box and click ‘Verify device’.
- Complete the Setup security questions and recovery email box .
- Once completed, you will receive notification your setup was successful.
You are now ready to use MFA every time you login!
NOTE: Upon subsequent login's once MFA is configured, you have the option to ‘Answer security questions’ rather than providing an authentication code from the Google Authenticator app. Simply answer the security questions you have set up previously, and click ‘Verify’.
IMPORTANT: If MFA has been mandated by your managing firm, you will not have the option to disable MFA.
1. From your client portal, click your profile and select ' User Settings'.
2. Select 'Security Settings; and click on the Disable MFA button in RED.
3. A pop-up window opens to confirm the deactivation of MFA. To proceed, click 'Confirm'.
Once MFA has been disabled, you will no longer be required to produce the second layer of identification at each login.
